Pre-prosthetic surgery
Pre-prosthetic surgeries create the correct framework conditions for the optimal integration of dentures, such as implantation of an artificial crown. Missing teeth that have not been replaced for a long period of time often change the jaw bone so strongly, that a stable and comfortable fit of the dentures cannot be realised. Therefore, pre-prosthetic surgery aims to create a robust, muscle-free bone surface. Sharp corners and edges of the jaw bone are ground and excess connective tissue is removed. Bone augmentation or distraction may become necessary if the bone loss is too extensive.Pre-prosthetic surgeries are usually performed under general anaesthesia, but, depending on the condition, they may also be performed under local anaesthesia.
